How it works

Life never stands still and this is how the Terra heat pump operates. It uses
a renewable source of energy, which costs nothing, is always available and
does not use up natural resources or produce any waste products.
Heating and cooling for life.

Glycol Circuit Heat Pump Circuit Warm Water Circuit
Stored heat from the environment Heat transfer and
temperature rise
Usable heat

The geothermal heat pump cools a water/ glycol mix down to a temperature of 5°C. In a closed loop geothermal circuit, this mix circulates into the ground, up to 100 m deep. The temperature there is around 19°C regardless of the season.

By cooling the ground the mix warms up and flows back to the heat pump. In a plate heat exchanger the just absorbed heat is extracted and then elevated to a higher temperature level, enabling the transfer into the warm water for space heating or hot water for domestic use.

In essence, heat pumps harvest low temperature heat from soil, water or air and make it usable in the house for heating and hot water. Since heat from the ambient is for free, the only input that has to be paid for is the electricity to operate the compressor, the circulating pumps and control equipment.

The heat pump takes energy from the air, from water or from the soil to provide heating and hot water.

Although still relying on electricity the geothermal heat pump is able to convert 1 kWh of electricity into up to 5 kWh of heat, thus making the heat pump five times more efficient than conventional electrical heating systems, reducing the heating costs by 75 - 80%.

    Deep bore brine circulation
A plastic geothermal energy probe is inserted into a borehole in the ground. The brine flows deep into the ground and back again, bringingup free heat from the surrounding earth.

For a heating capacity of 10 kW, two probes with a length of 100 m each are needed depending on the structure of the ground.

The probes are guaranteed for 10 years, but are expected to last longer.

Deep bore direct cooling
At a depth or 20 m or more, the ground temperature remains constant at over 19°C with no seasonal fluctuation. This constant temperature means the brine can absorb sufficient heat in winter and is ideal for cooling in summer.
